DSIC gets BV OK for wind-assisted LNG carrier

China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) has received approval in principle from classification society Bureau Veritas for a wind-assisted 175,000-cbm LNG carrier. The design combines LNG dual-fuel propulsion with foldable wing sails and is expected to cut energy consumption by over 5 percent and CO₂ emissions by about 2,900 tonnes per year, with an EEDI around 58 percent below the baseline. DSIC recently delivered its first large LNG carrier to China Merchants Energy Shipping, which has eight LNG carriers on order at the yard.
