India invokes emergency gas supply measures

India has invoked emergency measures under the Essential Commodities Act (1955) to manage gas supplies after disruptions to LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The government prioritized gas allocation to essential sectors such as: domestic piped gas, CNG transport, LPG production, and pipeline operations, maintaining 100% of their average consumption. Fertilizer plants will receive 70% of their usual gas supply, while industries connected to the national gas grid will receive around 80%. The disruption is linked to force majeure notices after LNG transport constraints between India and Qatar. As a result, Petronet LNG reduced contracted LNG supply to GAIL to zero from March 4.
