CMA CGM orders LNG-powered container vessels in India

CMA CGM has signed a shipbuilding deal with India’s Cochin Shipyard for six LNG-powered feeder container vessels. Cochin Shipyard called it a “mega” order worth over 20 billion rupees ($220 million), with deliveries scheduled between 36 and 64 months. This marks the first time CMA CGM has ordered LNG dual-fuel vessels in India, making it also “the first international shipping company” to do so there. CMA CGM said it is “deeply committed to human capital development in India,” having already recruited 1,000 Indian seafarers and aiming for 1,500 by end-2026.
