Egypt Scales Up Regas Capacity with FSRU Deployments from BOTAŞ, SEFE, and Höegh LNG
Egypt is significantly ramping up its LNG regasification capacity through three distinct operations involving international partners, aiming to meet rising domestic demand and mitigate declining natural gas output. As part of this effort, Egypt has signed a seasonal agreement with Turkey’s BOTAŞ to deploy the FSRU Ertuğrul Gazi during the summer of 2025—marking the world’s first example of a shared, rotational use of an FSRU between two countries. The vessel will support Egypt’s peak seasonal demand and return to Turkey during the remainder of the year.Separately, Egypt’s state gas company EGAS has secured the FSRU Energos Power through a sub-charter agreement with Germany’s state-owned energy firm SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe). In addition, EGAS has entered a long-term, 10-year deal with Höegh LNG for the deployment of the FSRU Hoegh Gandria at the Port of Sumed by Q4 2026. This unit will offer a peak regasification capacity of 1,000 mmscf/day.
