Shell and partners take FID on LNG Canada Phase 2

Shell announced on 29 September 2026 a final investment decision on LNG Canada Phase 2 in Kitimat, British Columbia. Two additional liquefaction trains will increase the facility's total production capacity from 14 to 28 million tonnes per annum. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the early 2030s.

The joint venture comprises Shell, PETRONAS, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation and Korea Gas Corporation. The expansion also includes additional storage and loading infrastructure. Each partner will continue to supply gas and take LNG in proportion to its equity interest.
