DNV says 16 LNG-powered vessels booked in January

DNV, reported 20 new alternative-fuel vessel orders in January, with LNG dominating through 16 LNG-fueled container ships. LNG remained the leading alternative fuel in 2025, accounting for 188 orders and 31% of total gross tonnage, despite overall orders falling 47% year on year to 275. DNV’s AFI platform shows 854 LNG-powered ships in operation and 655 on order, including 410 LNG-fueled containerships. In total, 1 509 LNG-powered vessels are confirmed, compared with 449 methanol, 303 LPG, 49 ammonia, and 37 hydrogen-fueled ships.
