Ichthys LNG workers vote in favor of strike

Ichthys LNG workers voted to authorize protected industrial action at Inpex’s Darwin export facility over pay and conditions. The dispute comes as Australia plans to force LNG exporters to reserve part of their gas for the domestic market from July 2027. The new policy would require exporters to set aside around 20% of export volumes, aiming to ease local supply shortages and reduce exposure to global LNG price volatility. Ichthys is one of the major export projects exposed to this broader policy shift, alongside its current labor dispute and possible offtake disruptions.
